To keep your corset looking new, here are some corset care suggestions.

Fabric Corsets:

DO NOT WASH YOUR CORSET - remember, your corset is made with steel boning. Water will cause it to rust. If it needs cleaning, take it to a trusted dry cleaner and, if possible, have it dry cleaned by hand. In most cases, letting your corset air out will do. Simply drape your corset over a hanger or over the back of a chair and let the fresh air in. Do try to avoid direct sunlight, as that may fade the color.

Leather Corsets:

Treat your corset with a leather conditioner occasionally to keep it supple. After wearing, wipe your corset clean with a damp cloth.

Patent Leather Corsets:

To keep the patent shiny, treat your corset with patent polish or simply dry polish it with a very soft cloth; for example, flannel. After wearing, wipe your corset clean with a damp cloth.

All Corsets:

After wearing, air out your corset and occasionally use a damp cloth to clean the lining. This will keep it smelling fresh and reduce the need for costly dry cleaning. When possible, wear something underneath your corset - a thin camisole or t-shirt will keep the perspiration away from your corset (and the straps can be tucked inside!).

NEVER remove your corset without first loosening the laces in the back. Neglecting to loosen laces before removal can result in a broken busk! We do guarantee our products for the life of the material, but we will not be responsible for repairing busks or bones broken in this manner.

A note about the corset laces: Many people find their delicate look disconcerting at first. Rest assured, this nylon ribbon is VERY strong. After time it may wear out, but it is easily replaced with new ribbon which can be purchased at any fabric store. We strongly discourage wearing the ends of your corset laces tied around your waist, as it causes wear and weakens the material.

Cleaning:

To remove a dirt spot from the outer fabric of a corset, use the interior of fresh white bread. Press it into a firm ball and use this to rub out the dirty stains.

Hands wash a test area first in genital soap to test for color fastness. If it is good, hand wash in the tub so the corset is flat, rinse several times and line dry. You may have to iron the corset afterwards. If you have any concerns have the garment dry cleaned.

Questions about Caring For and Cleaning your Corset:

Q: What should I do after I remove the corset?
A: Well-made corsets should last years, provided it is properly cared for. Do not over-tighten it and each time after you are finished wearing it, give it some time to breathe. Simply lay it flat (lining exposed) on your bed or chair for a while so that the moisture that has been absorbed can air out.

Q: How should I store the corset?
A: After the corset has been aired out and is dry, lay it flat in a towel and roll it and place in a drawer. You can also hang it on a wooden hanger with the laces over the bar of the hanger.

Q: How do I clean the corset?
A: It is recommended that you take it to a reputable professional dry cleaner. If you can find a dry cleaning specialist that offers hand-dry cleaning, it would be worth the expense. If your corset comes with removable straps or garters, it is advised to remove them before cleaning is done because the solutions used can be harmful to the elastics. A leather corset should be cleaned with leather cleaners only.

Q: How often should I clean my corset?
A: Most often, corsets are worn over clothing or a liner, but just as often they are worn over skin so it really depends on how much the corset is used. Use your own judgment when a cleaning is needed. The sniff test helps. Cleaning too often can harm the corset materials, so check with your corsetiere.
